Academic English Skills aims to provide thorough training in the language and related academic skills which will enable international students to best achieve their academic potential at university. Our Academic English programme is validated by UK ENIC, the UK government agency responsible for providing information and expert opinion on qualifications and skills worldwide.
You will develop awareness and competency in a range of language-related academic skills, including the processes of academic writing, effective and extensive reading strategies, effective participation in seminars and delivery of presentations, and listening to and recording information effectively from lectures. You will also develop the accuracy and range of written and spoken language required to use language effectively and appropriately, with clarity and confidence in an academic context.
Alongside your classes, your studies will be supported by an online learning platform, providing you with a range of tasks and activities specifically designed to develop and extend your language and academic skills outside the classroom and to give you more control over your own learning.
This module introduces you to the concept of entrepreneurship and how new businesses manage in a constantly changing business environment. You will be able to analyse the macro, micro and internal business environments in which businesses operate and discuss the impact of these changes on business decisions, direction, and development to ensure you are sustainable and competitive. You will also be given the opportunity to develop a business plan that will give you the opportunity to consider the factors that external investors would consider before investing in a business venture. The aims of this module focus on establishing and developing academic skills through learning theoretical content, applying knowledge to specific cases and situations, and evaluating how businesses deal with complex issues that will enable you to be prepared for further undergraduate study.
This module will ensure you develop the financial and economic literacy necessary to succeed in a business management course. The course will introduce you to the core accounting skills of Double Entry Book-Keeping, creation of Financial Statements and using Ratios to determine the relative position of a business in relation to others in the same sector. You will also develop your micro and macro-economic analysis skills and learn how individual businesses are impacted by the wider economic environment.
This module introduces you to the core topics and concepts of the ways humans behave and interact within organisations and the management of people in the work environment. As a theory driven module, it focuses on the perspective of individuals, groups, teams, structures, and finally processes, offering opportunities for practical application to real-world business examples and global case studies, and to understand how key topics such as politics, leadership, motivation, and gender are addressed within organisations. You will explore current trends and themes within organisations and analyse the relationship between theory, organisation, and the environment.
The overall aim of the module is to develop your fundamental knowledge of research philosophies and data collection methods, and to give you an opportunity to apply the knowledge to derive a research proposal within your area of study.
